1 – ICELAND

Known as the ‘land of ice and fire’, Iceland has over 20 active volcanoes and 11% of its surface is covered by glaciers, in addition to being one of the best places to catch the extraordinary natural phenomenon that is the Northern Lights.

This tiny island-country at the edge of Europe founded by the Vikings, is a place of stunning beauty and fascinating geography, and one of our top destinations for Geology-inspired school trips.

2- ANDORRA

From the glaciers of Iceland to the slopes of Andorra, one of our favourite destinations for school ski trips, nestled between Spain and France in the heart of the Pyrenees.

Andorra has great winter resorts like Pal Arinsal, which is ideal for younger skiers and offers fantastic value for money. In addition to a full week of morning lessons and apres ski activities, students can also soothe their ski legs at Andorra’s top thermal destination: Caldea Spa, an incredible 25,000 sq. metre resort of hot springs, spa, jacuzzi and saunas.

3- CAMINO DE SANTIAGO

Walked by pilgrims from all over Europe and beyond since the Middle Ages, the Camino de Santiago trails have become some of the most famous walking routes in the world in recent years.

There are many different trails, all leading to Santiago, where young pilgrims can step in the shoes of medieval pilgrims on these ancient paths. Whether they walk for a week or longer, the Camino is an experience that will bring them together and that will stay with them.

2022 is a very special year to walk the Camino, as the Holy Year Xacobeo has been extended due to the pandemic.

4- KRAKOW AND AUSCHWITZ

The Polish city of Krakow and nearby Auschwitz are incredible destinations for students to learn about the history of World War II and the Holocaust.

It was in the charming Kazimierz District, the Jewish Quarter, where Steven Spielberg filmed his award winning movie Schindler’s List. It was here where the vibrant Polish Jewish community lived until the Nazi invasion in the 1930s and where Oskar Schindler had his factory, today part of the Historical Museum of Krakow.

A few kms away, the Auschwitz Birkenau Concentration Camp memorial and museum, once the largest and most infamous concentration camp run by the Nazis, is a must-visit for students.

5- AMSTERDAM

A city built on water and a masterpiece of engineering, Amsterdam is crisscrossed by a network of 165 canals and over 1200 bridges, built to facilitate trade during the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century.

It is also a city of art and culture where students can get closer to the talent of Vincent Van Gogh and the Dutch Masters at the city’s top class museums: Van Gogh Museum, dedicated exclusively to the life and work of the most famous Dutch artist; and Rijksmuseum, where they will find masterpieces by painters like Rembrandt and Vermeer.
