A city that bears the scars of Europe’s most recent conflicts, Berlin is a fantastic place to learn more about the Second World War, the Cold War and their aftermath.

The fascinating Topography of Terror museum, located in the former headquarters of the Gestapo and SS, documents the repression and atrocities carried out during the Nazi regime. At Checkpoint Charlie, we get a glimpse of what life was like for Berliners before the fall of the Berlin Wall, which divided the city, and two opposing views of the world, until 1989.

As far as active school trips go, it doesn’t get much more exciting than a school ski trip to some of Europe’s fantastic winter resorts.

A day out on the slopes learning from qualified ski instructors and enjoying the fresh air, followed by apres-ski activities such as ice skating or snow tubing, and sight seeing is all part of the fun. The Italian Apenines is a fantastic destination for school ski trips and one of our favourites!

Another great idea for active school trips is walking the Camino de Santiago as a team. There are thousands of miles across Europe but you can walk the last stretch of the famous trails with your classroom over a few days.

The Camino is a memorable experience and challenge that will bring them together and will give history a different perspective as they spend the week walking paths that have been taken by pilgrims since the Middle Ages.

  • ROME

Italy’s capital Rome, also known as the Eternal City, was once the epicentre of the mighty Roman Empire as well as the cradle of Catholic faith.

It is a great place to learn about ancient history, visiting amazing places such as The Colosseum and the Pantheon; but also art, admiring the city’s wonderful architecture; and of course The Vatican City is a must-visit for religious studies.

As the city of soccer greats FC Barcelona, Catalonia’s capital is another all-time favourite, particularly for sports fans, but also has plenty to see for art students.
