5 great reasons to join a Camino guided tour

If you have been thinking about embarking on a Camino journey for a while but you weren’t sure whether to join an organised group or ‘doing it alone’, here are our top reasons to join a Camino guided tour:

MEET YOUR CAMINO ‘FAMILY’

The benefits of experiencing the Camino as part of a guided tour are many, particularly for first time and solo travellers. Meeting like-minded people and sharing the experience with your new ‘Camino family’ is often one of the most memorable reasons.

As you walk and chat, share meals and impressions, you will find making a connection and bonding with lovely people you have never met before is one of the truly magical effects of the Camino. These connections are the essence of the Camino de Santiago and why the experience is so special to so many pilgrims.

Being part of the Camino family you will still have plenty of me-time, to reflect and spend time in your own company.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

From regional food you must try, restaurants and customs to history and culture… travelling with a local guide offers insights that no guidebook (or Google search!) will quite match.

The knowledge, warmth and enthusiasm of our local guides will introduce you to the spirit of the Camino de Santiago, Galicia and beyond.

SUPPORT

Our local guides will walk with you and the group for the week, looking after you from the moment you arrive at Santiago airport.

LOGISTICS TAKEN CARE OF

When joining a Camino guided tour, most of the travel logistics will be taken care of: from flights to pick up at the airport, transfers to the trail, hotel accommodation and some of the meals, in addition to a walking guided tour of Santiago de Compostela. All you need to do is pack and go!

As part of the trip, we generally organise two group dinners: on the first night so you can meet the group members and the guide; and on the last night, as a farewell dinner. The rest the week you will have free time to experience local restaurants with the group or on your own.

COMFORTABLE HOTELS

After a full day walking, we would like you to arrive to the comfort of your hotel room, where you can relax and rest. For our guided tours, we have selected quality hotel accommodation on the route where you will be staying for a few nights. For instance, on the Camino Frances guided tour, you will be spending four nights in lovely Lugo and three nights in Santiago.

In the mornings, our private coach will collect the group and travel back to the trail. This way you have less packing to do during the week, as you will be coming back to the same hotel for a few nights.

ABOUT JWT CAMINO GUIDED TOURS

JWT Camino guided tours depart on specific dates and cover a particular route and section of the Camino de Santiago. While they are generally a week long, except for the ‘Easy Camino’, you may be able to add nights at the start and/or end of the guided tour, just ask our travel experts for advice.

If you are organising your own group (A charity, walking club or school for instance), we can also create a guided trip specifically for you and your group on your preferred route and dates.
