The Camino Frances attracts walkers of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities every year. While the whole Camino Frances route is nearly 800kms long, starting at the foot of the Pyrenees it is also possible to walk shorter stretches of the trail.
On this 7-night Camino de Santiago School trip from Sarria, students will walk the last stretch of the Camino Frances, which is a manageable section for walkers of all abilities and levels. This experience will introduce students to these UNESCO-listed trails that have been walked by pilgrims for many centuries.
Walking across Galicia’s green countryside, through forests and tiny hamlets, students will discover the spirit of the Camino, the camaraderie that makes it such a special experience.
They will be following in the footsteps of medieval pilgrims who took these paths on their pilgrimage to the city of St James since the 12th century. Stamping their pilgrim passport along the way, in churches, cafes and shops, they will record their journey and get their Compostela certificate once they arrive in Santiago de Compostela.
In Santiago de Compostela, we will explore the cobbled streets and quaint squares of the magnificent UNESCO-listed Old Town, visiting the Cathedral but also its colourful Abastos Market, the city’s 500-year old University, as well as learning about Galician culture, heritage and traditions.
Walking the Camino de Santiago is a fantastic team challenge, an immersive educational experience and students will feel a great achievement.
