Is it worth booking a drinks package? Caroline says:
This is a question that’s always asked and I think it depends on the client. When it comes to drink packages and because I’ve cruised a good bit myself, is it worth having a drink package – yes of course, it’s worth having a drink package. It’s within your budget so you’re not worrying what you have to pay for on board.
But what I like about the cruise lines at the moment is you can either choose to have them or not to have them. That’s quite good as well for clients that don’t like taking a drink.
But when it comes to drink packages, it’s not just about alcohol, it’s about your refreshment packages which would include your soft drinks, smoothies and water. These can be just as expensive if you don’t have them included as packages when you go onboard and pay them daily.
People always ask “What would you do?”
The only way I can honestly say to people is, if you are going to have more than four or five drinks a day, I would definitely recommend for clients to have a drinks package onboard.
When is the best time to book?
Most cruise lines will give you the option to prebook them before you go. Say with Royal Caribbean, you can’t actually book a drinks package until you have your cabin confirmed and you book them through their app. Generally, we would advise clients to hold out on the drink packages because they run promotions and they can be anything from 10% to 15% UP TO 50% reductions so clients can keep an eye on them. They will be sent messages to let them know about reductions.
MSC, Norwegian Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises you can also have with or without. NCL and Princess offer packages with their Wi-fi also included with drinks and maybe excursions and credit which is really good as a package. Additionally, MSC has their premium drinks. There’s plenty of choice for everybody!
