With so many cruise options out there, how do you know which one is the best one for you? Caroline says:
That is a very good question. Cruise ships come in all shapes, sizes and styles. There is a saying: there is a ship for everybody and there is really a ship for everybody.
The best choice for you could depend on the itinerary, if there is a destination they would like to see. First we would look at the ships in all the different categories and which ship visits that destination if there is a destination in mind; for example some people might want to visit Italy, Spain and France or they might want the Eastern Med which is Rome, the Greek Islands and Turkey.
When it comes to the ships then again we need to consider is it a ship for families? is it a ship for couples? is it a ship for a group of ladies? Is it for guys or anybody looking for that special occasion? Is there going to be multigenerational families? It is important to pick a ship that is going to be suitable for everybody on board.
SHIP SIZES
When it comes to ship sizes, some people like the more intimate style, which would be more luxury. Some like your kind of medium size where you are talking anything from about 1800 passengers up to kind of 3000. Then you’ve got your expedition and your more luxury intimate ships which can be anything from 500 to 900 guests on board. The smaller luxury intimate ships will be generally anything up to 900 passengers, for instance Silversea, Explora Journeys, Scenic, Emerald.
Princess Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean , MSC, NCL and Virgin would come in under the kind of the 3000 passengers. There are many different size ships and your choice might depends on the itineraries. Then you’ve got the new Icon Class ships from Royal Caribbean which is on another level, they’re like floating cities with amazing facilities but you’re talking anything up to 7 or 8000 passengers.
Then you have your river cruises, which is a boutique option and medium sized ships, passenger wise they would host 120 to 200 guests onboard.
But again, there’s a ship for everybody which is suitable for everyone’s budget but I think the most important thing for anybody, especially for first time cruising, is speaking with an expert because people sometimes see an offer and they might pick it just because the offer is really, really good but the ship might no be suitable or the itinerary might not be suitable for them.
It is really good to make contact with an expert and ourselves here at JWT, our cruise team is here to ask the right questions to make sure we get you on the right ship because there is a right cruise ship for everybody and you always want to get that right.
