Over three days students will discover Derry City; as well as the geological wonder that is the Giant’s Causeway. The Derry and Giant’s Causeway School Trip starts with an informative guided tour of Derry which taking in all the main landmarks of the city of Derry Girls.
Students will visit the City Walls, the neo gothic Guildhall town hall, the Peace Bridge, Saint Columb’s Cathedral and the Bogside, location of the famous Free Derry mural.
At the Museum of Free Derry the group will learn about the civil rights movement in Northern Ireland in the 1960s and the era known as The Troubles. A visit to the Siege Museum in Derry and Derry Central Library will complete our cultural tour of the city.
Next on the tour we will swap urban stories for striking landscapes as we travel along the coast to the Giant’s Causeway. At the Causeway they will admire this phenomenal place made of over 40,000 hexagonal basalt columns, created over 60 million years ago as a result of volcanic activity.
At the visitor centre we will learn about all the science behind this beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site, but also the folklore and legend of rival giants Finn Mc Cool and Benandonner which gives the place its name.
We have also included evening and adventure activities, including a paddle board or kayak tour on the river Foyle, a cinema night and bowling evening.
