BEST OF LISBON SCHOOL TRIP

DAY 1 – LISBON AND FADO

Today the group will fly to Lisbon and start exploring the stunning Portuguese capital, wandering the winding lanes of Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest district, and visit the imposing 11th century Castelo de Sao Jorge fortress which towers over the city. From the Castle the students can take in wonderful panoramic views of the city, the Tajo River and beyond.

In the evening, we will head to the Bairro Alto quarter to enjoy a traditional Fado music session, in one of the great little venues in this quarter.

DAY 2 – EXPLORING LISBON

After breakfast, the group will explore Lisbon further, starting with a visit to the Belém Tower, Torre de Belém, Lisbon’s most iconic landmark.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site fortress was built in the 15th century in ornate Manueline style as a watchtower to defend the city and the nearby Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, during the Age of Discoveries. Over time, it has been also used as a lighthouse and even a jail.

Grab a few of the delicious pastéis de Belém custard tarts, similar to pastéis de nata, before heading back to the city centre where you will continue sightseeing.

In the central Baixa and Chiado districts, students will visit the medieval church of Sao Domingos and enjoy some free time to walk Rua Augusta, take the Santa Justa lift or simply watch the world go by at the Rossio Square or Praça de Figueira.

DAY 3 – SINTRA

This morning, after breakfast, the group will travel to the enchanting town of Sintra, approximately 25kms away from Lisbon.

Some of the intricate palaces and exquisite mansions in the hills of Sintra were built in the 19th century, when Sintra was the Summer residence of Portugal’s royalty, wealthy aristocrats and European elites.

DAY 4 – TRAM 28E AND AIRPORT

In the morning, the students will have a chance to ride Lisbons’ best tram route, the 28E from Campo de Ourique to Martim Moniz which climbs up and down the hills of Lisbon taking all the main sights and best views in the city in just 45 minutes.

In the afternoon/evening, it is time to say goodby to Lisbon and travel back to the airport for your flight back home.
